Opening PAK Files without Unknown Apple II File, Compressed Archive File, or Quake Archive Software Installed
Different software packages tend to sometimes share similar file types. Unknown Apple II File, Compressed Archive File, and Quake Archive are some of the popular programs that use the PAK file extension, so you should be able to use any of these three to open your file. You might even be able to find others by doing a quick Google search.
A word of warning, though. Be sure to scan any free software you download with a malware checker before running it on your computer.
If You Have Unknown Apple II File, Compressed Archive File, or Quake Archive Installed
If one of these software packages are already installed on your PC, but it still won't work to open your PAK file, you might have to check that the file associations are correct. Right-click on the file, select "Open With...", and then select Unknown Apple II File, Compressed Archive File, or Quake Archive. That will create an association between the PAK file extension and your chosen software.
Your PAK Might Be Corrupt
Finally, if you're still having issues opening your PAK file, download the file again or ask the sender to resend it. It's possible that your PAK file might be corrupt. As a last resort, contact the software developers to see if they may be of further assistance.
