If You Don't Have XMap Hierarchical Dataset or Hierarchical Data System
In order to open your HDS file, you will have to download XMap Hierarchical Dataset, Hierarchical Data System, or another similar software package.
If Your Computer is Not Configured to Open HDS Files
If you have the relevant software, but your computer still won't open the software, you will have to change the file associations on Windows or Mac. Depending on your operating system, you can ensure that your computer always open HDS files using XMap Hierarchical Dataset, Hierarchical Data System, or another program of your choice that uses HDS files.

If the HDS File is Corrupt
In some instances, you may receive an error message stating that the file is corrupt. If you have tried all of the above, and it still doesn't work, download or request a new copy to see if that works.
Open HDS File the Easy Way
If you don't want to download XMap Hierarchical Dataset or Hierarchical Data System (for whatever reason), and the other options also don't work... that's okay!
Even though some HDS files must be opened in a program for which it was developed (binary format), you may still be able to open it in a universal file viewer such as File Magic. Download File Magic now from the Microsoft Store and open your HDS file!
